The majority of toddle and child drownings occur after a fall into deep water. In this next installment of the CSS Way learn-to-swim video, we will discuss effective ways to teach beginners safe entries and exits and how to hold your breath and go underwater.

The CSS Way ensures swimmers are taught these skills and more at the youngest age possible. This instructional video aims to show parents how to teach their kids to safely enter and exit the pool, and how to properly teach your kids to hold their breath as they go underwater.

The CSS Way teaches the safest entry: the slip. The slip in is where kids, starting from a sitting position on the side of the pool, turn onto their stomach and slide backwards into the pool, all the while holding onto the side. Exiting the pool is done through the elbow-elbow-tummy-knee technique, where kids can leverage their body weight to climb out of deep water on their own.

Holding breath and going underwater is one of the most important skills for any beginner. Using a basic progression, we teach kids how to hold their breath (or condition infants to do it instinctively), before progressively going deeper and deeper underwater for longer and longer amounts of time.

Follow the drills and progressions in the video to get a really good idea of how to teach these skills from start to finish. And remember, beginners are often young kids, so keep the drills fun and motivate like crazy!

Safe swimming everyone!!
